The Tahoe State Recreation Area Campground, located immediately northeast of Tahoe City on Lake Tahoe’s northwest shore, is a popular spot for outdoor enthusiasts. The campground, which is considered urban and is situated alongside Highway 28, offers small sites that are best suited for tents. Each of its 28 campsites comes equipped with a table, fire ring, grill, and food storage container. Open from the end of May through August, this family-friendly campground provides easy access to water recreation activities and town amenities. It is also connected to the Tahoe City bike trail which leads to Squaw Valley and the Truckee River. The campground is known for its friendly camp hosts and its great biking trail that cuts through the camp. Additionally, there are metal bear-resistant food lockers available for use at the site.
